Quietcation: where luxury means peace and silence

Quietcation Frangimare Salina

I recently read that one of the key travel trends for 2026 is the quietcation, and I can’t help but think of it in the feminine, as if there were a natural affinity between us.

Calm, stillness, digital detox, nature, and silence: the pillars of this trend perfectly embody the spirit of Salina, this island set in the deep blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Some of us are fortunate enough to call it home; others, quite rightly, choose it as their sanctuary, a place to recharge and restore their inner balance. And then there are the indefatigable professionals, mindful of their well-being, who come here to embrace what we call in Italy smartworking.

It’s easy to see why.

As I write, I’m sitting on the terrace at Frangimare. In front of me lie the garden in bloom, the shimmering sea, and Stromboli quietly sending plumes into the sky. The silence is broken only by birdsong and the distant laughter of children, who here still enjoy the simple freedom of playing in the piazza.
Some call it hushpitality. The word hush reminds me — and always will — of David Gilmour telling Roger Waters / Pink not to cry in Mother, but here there are no overprotective figures or walls built too high.

Instead, there is a refined, thoughtful form of hospitality, discreet, attentive, and far from the crowds. It’s a bespoke experience that allows you to disconnect from the noise of the world without ever feeling isolated. Not the showy glamour of the designer boutiques, but the quiet luxury of sweeping views and profound silence. Not the urge to capture every moment on your phone, but the pleasure of watching a slow sunset unfold, a glass of local wine in hand.

Salina — and Frangimare — naturally embody the philosophy of the quietcation. Less is more, as we’ve learned, and it rings true. Because this “less”, this gentle subtraction, doesn’t detract from the experience, it elevates it. It becomes the starting point for rediscovering life’s quieter joys: reading in the shade, wandering through vineyards, lingering over a long seaside dinner.

If a quietcation is on your mind, Frangimare may be exactly what you’re looking for. Feel free to write to me, even just to ask a question. I would be delighted to help you discover a different kind of holiday and design a stay tailored just for you.

See you soon,
Serena
